I shot a man in Re-no, just to watch him die
No one told me the
real Final Fantasy movie is made of awesome. I know little about the games, being X-box illiterate, and the film premise (world powered by a mysterious source that is ultimately damaging) sounds much too
Matrix. But if you enjoy devious melodrama,
exquisite animation and action sequences, romance eloquently rendered without sex or sugar, angst that never loses its sense of humor, plus unsurpassable character design, watch. The plot is easy to follow, mainly because all in all it's a very simple one. Also a film that will convince you the Japanese are and always will be the Merchants of Cool.
(Warning: do NOT watch the dubbed-in-English version. Are you
certain you want to see a Japanese franchise with the female characters voiced by Mena Suvari and Rachel Leigh Cook? Also, how are you supposed to hear Reno's distinctive and sexy speech patterns?)
