There's an odd parallel echoed from a recent Daria episode:
Daria - You know... I had everything more or less under control. I'm not saying it was great, but I could deal with school, I could deal with home, and now nothing's under control.
Helen - It never is, sweetie. We just tell ourselves otherwise so we can function.
Daria - Who came up with that stupid arrangement?
Helen - It's called life.
Daria - Life sucks.
Helen - Yes. Sometimes. (pause) Often.

And when T.S. Eliot wrote
A necessary move

But that nothing may be left undone
On the margin of the impossible...

I found out something today - I can't spell tabacco (see?) as revealed by a certain economics data response question or study for even an hour straight to save my life.
And some things seem even more like parodies of other things. Think butterflies, for example.

Can't remember much because there aren't no friggin' transcipts (will insert when Google yields results). Cue Ginger and her box of butterflies at junior high graduation: "Fly, butterflies, fly!" (Not effective. I know.)

Anti-climaxically more Daria:
Amanda - Oh, Jane. Everyone will work things out in their own way, in their own time. Remember when you kids were young?
Jane - How far back? Diapers creep me out.
Amanda - The time Trent moved into a tent in the backyard.
Jane - Oh, sure. It was my job to deliver the sandwiches.
Amanda - We just left him alone for six months until he got bored. Summer once ate only Pez for a year, and look how beautifully she turned out! You know, if you try to hold a butterfly tightly in your hand, it will die. You have to let it go. And if it comes back, it is truly yours, but if doesn't, it never really was.
Jane - How about if you tear off its precious little wings?

Philosophizing from TV is one sad activity. Of course, one IS on Nickelodeon while the other IS on MTV.
